I've mentioned White Rabbit Skincare quite a few times recently and now I am going to share with you an interview that the founder, Melanie, has very kindly done with me.
This isn't a normal post for me but I thought it would be an interesting change - click the link to read more about this Scottish entrepreneur!
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a 26 (nearly 27
eek) year old animal loving lady from Kilmarnock, Scotland, who is also a big
kid at heart – I love Disney/animated movies and collecting Funko Pops!
Where did the inspiration for White Rabbit Skincare come from?
I suffer from
psoriasis, and find that ‘conventional’ skincare products can really
irritate/inflame it. For years before I created WRS, I was very big on using
naturally-based/organic skincare products, but find that it can be very
difficult to determine what companies and products are definitely cruelty free,
and so I thought what better way to guarantee products that are CF and contain
skin friendly ingredients than making them myself?!
How long have you been making your own skincare?
White Rabbit Skincare
will be a year old this April, but before setting up my own company I had been
experimenting with various different ‘recipes’ and ingredients (I remember
owning a massive tub of Shea butter that lasted me ages!) for years. It must be
working as I have been told several times I don’t look any older than 20!
What made you want to make the products cruelty free and vegan?
I personally think
why would you ever not want to make them cruelty free? Admittedly when I
first set up WRS I was using beeswax and honey in some of the products, but on
doing further research it made complete sense to use vegan ingredients (so for
example olive wax instead of beeswax and agave nectar instead of honey), as
these are just as good – if not better –than the non-vegan ingredients. It has
also opened up an entire new customer base to me as well, which has been
fantastic.
When did you decide to go cruelty free?
I have always tried
to make cruelty free choices, for as long as I can remember, but I’d probably
say I’ve been 100% cruelty free (including the household products I buy, the
shoes I wear etc) for the past two years.
Where would you like to see White Rabbit Skincare going in the future?
I have so many plans!
I would like to produce a men’s range, a mother/baby range, and of course add
more products to my main skincare line – so for example products for
combination skin. I also love the idea of producing my own soy candles, and expanding
into the overseas market. At the moment however I would love for WRS to become
established as a trusted, quality vegan skincare company in Scotland (or even
the UK!).
Thanks so much to Melanie for doing this little interview with me! Make sure to check out her Etsy shop here, and follow her on Twitter @WhiteRabbitSC.
