Empties #21

I have a really positive empties post for you today, only one of them got a thumbs down from me!  I have also started including a 'rating' where I have rated the product out of 10, hopefully you will find this useful, it makes sense in my head!

Empties #18

Hello!  I've really been struggling to fit in blogging round my job and other activities recently, especially with the dark nights making taking photos near impossible!  As I've moved away from home for work, a lot of my weekends are taken up with either going back up or having people down visiting.  However I managed to do some bulk photography which should keep me going for a while. Does anyone know of any decent daylight bulbs or lights?  This would make life a lot easier, can't wait for light nights again!

Soap & Glory Glow Job

Ages ago I did a comparison post between Origins VitaZing and Soap & Glory Glow Job which you can see here (also click that link to see it on my face).  However VitaZing lasted me such a long time (until the end of March I think, it was in this empties post) that I didn't start using Glow Job properly until recently so I thought I'd write a wee review on it now that I've been using it for a while.

Stealing the photo from my last post ha, sneaky!!
Daily, I don't wear foundation, I am lucky enough to have reasonably clear skin but I do like to have a base of some sort so I don't look like a ghost.  VitaZing was the perfect product for me but since finding out they are not cruelty free I am unable to repurchase it!  I thought that Glow Job would be a good dupe as it's a similar idea - comes out the tube as a normal cream but then changes colours as you rub it in.

However, I am not enjoying using Glow Job.  The way it works is that in the moisturiser there are little beads of bronzer which burst to add colour, however they aren't even distributed and are quite difficult to burst actually!  Some mornings I will use it and get 6 beads, sometimes less and sometimes even none!  Also if you don't give them a good squeeze between your fingers then you'll end up with big orangey streaks across your face - not the best look.  It also has a slightly greasy finish, definitely not the worst but I have combination skin so I would rather it was a bit more matte.

It also doesn't contain any SPF which I don't like, I prefer to have even just a 10 or 15 SPF in my everyday make up.

I will finish using this tube but I wouldn't repurchase.  So the hunt continues!  I am looking into tinted moisturisers now but haven't really got my eye on any yet.  Someone did recommend Stila to me but I had a look on their website and couldn't see one, hmm??

Soap & Glory Glow Job is available in Boots for £9/75ml.

Some Christmas Pressies!!

I do love seeing what people have got for Christmas, it's so exciting!  I've decided to do a sort of abridged version just including my bigger presents rather than going through every sweetie and pair of socks haha!

I wasn't expecting much this year as I'm over 21 now and apparently that's the age when everyone decides you're too old for presents!  However I ended up with a good wee haul anyway, I am very lucky!

So first, one of my main presents from my mum and dad was the Sigma Mrs Bunny Travel Kit, which also comes in black.  I got this on Black Friday when they did free international shipping, and I also treated myself to the Kabuki Kit!  It was then passed onto the parents and put away until Christmas.  I really like it, it comes with synthetic versions of the E40, E30, E55, E65, F30, F40 and F60!

Next is a coat I wanted from work, I brought it home a week before Christmas like, can you buy me this for a present?  They didn't even wrap it :( I've not had it on yet but I love it, and it was a bargain too!

Faux fur leopard print coat

I got loads of books this year!  My Auntie Tricia got me the Enid Blyton Adventure set, and my parents got me the new Jodi Picoult book, Lone Wolf.  I'm looking forward to reading these, Enid Blyton takes me back to my childhood!

My Auntie Tricia also got me Lgns London Roses & Diamonds perfume which I had asked for.  This is a BUAV Approved company so finally I can have some fancy cruelty free perfume!  It is also pretty cheap too, I think it's about £20 for 30ml.  It smells so nice but you don't need to take my word for it because they send out free paper samples - which I had already got.  There is also another perfume called Serenity which I haven't tried, and they are currently doing a deal where you get a free mascara when you buy that perfume.

Cruelty free perfume

I got this bag from my Auntie Heather and family.  It's so big and squishy, I love it!!  I'm getting a bit fed up of my tiny little bag so I am going to transfer everything over into this one.  It means I can get a nice big purse to go with it too!  I'm not 100% sure which it's made of which worried me at first but I think it is faux leather - hopefully!

...And my Auntie Tricia gave me this wee charm too (she spoils us!!!) so I attached it onto my new bag!

From my mum's friend and her daughter I got a Soap & Glory set which I was really excited about.  I've never actually tried any of their stuff so I can't wait to try it out and see if they live up to the hype!

And finally from my neighbour, a L'Occitane hand cream set.  The packaging on this is just stunning, I'm definitely keeping the box!  Sadly L'Occitane started selling in China last year so I wouldn't be able to repurchase but I'm sure this will keep me going for a while!

Have you got a favourite present from this Christmas?

Origins VitaZing Vs. Soap & Glory Glow Job

Origins VitaZing is my staple daily item, I use it every morning before putting on my make up.  This is good for me as I am terrible as routines!!  However due to Origins' parent company Estée Lauder recently being put in the spotlight for either lying about animal testing, or starting it up again (I'm not sure of the details), I have been on the hunt for an alternative!

I really did not expect to find one at all to be honest, never mind one which is so similar!  I saw it mentioned on Behind These Closed Eyes' blog, and knew I had to go out and try this ASAP!  The product is Glow Job (oooh err!) by Soap & Glory.

Price:  VitaZing comes in at £26, however I used to buy it with my staff discount so got it for £22.10 (it used to be £25, and my staff discount used to be 20% so would get it for £20, booo!) and Glow Job is £9.

Application:  You only need a pea sized amount for both of these creams, any more than that and you can end up with streaky and uneven coverage.  VitaZing is easier to apply in that you just rub it into you skin and it changes colour - actual voodoo magic - whereas Glow Job contains bronzing balls which burst to release colour.  So for this one you need to apply it to your fingers then rub them together to burst all the balls (lol...) and mix in the bronzeness before putting it onto your face.  You do not want to just rub this straight on, you will end up with the beads bursting all over the place and it will be hard to make it even after that!

Appearance/Scent:  VitaZing is a beigey colour with tiny dark specks, and Glow Job is just pale white colour until the beads are burst and mixed in when it turns to a more golden tan colour.  Personally I prefer the smell of VitaZing, it is a fresher fruity smell where as Glow Job is sweeter, reminds me of something but I can't quite think what...

Packaging:  I prefer VitaZing's packaging for this one as it's a flip lid so much easier when you're in a rush in the morning!  Glow Job is just a twist on lid which can be awkward at times.  However, every morning when I go to use it VitaZing has a gooey, congealed bit at the nozzle which I need to wipe off before using which is really annoying! I'm sure this isn't really to do with packaging but just thought I'd throw it in there!

So here are some really awkward pictures of my face!

Without any face make up on

Wearing Soap & Glory Glow Job
And my overall thoughts on them both...

VitaZing:  I prefer the application and smell of this but it is no longer cruelty free in my eyes and also has quite a hefty price tag!

Glow Job:  Love the price, it's also more accessible as it's available from Boots rather than an Origins counter.  It does have a more greasy feel to the cream which sank into my face however it left more of a residue on my hands.  It also doesn't contain SPF which is a bit annoying, however it means you can wear it for occasions where there will be photos taken and it won't make your face look shiny!

So to be honest I'd say they are quite interchangeable!  Except Glow Job is almost a 3rd of the price and it is most importantly cruelty free!
