Urban Decay's Change of Heart

I literally just found out about 3 hours ago that Urban Decay have decided to sell their products in China... Now, there is a law in China which means that cosmetics can be tested on animals by the government if they so wish, before they are allowed to be sold (which is obviously absurd!).  So Urban Decay are no longer cruelty free!  I can't even tell you how disappointed I am in them, I thought no matter what happened, at least UD would be around with CF alternatives, but no!

I found out this upsetting news from Liz who has written a good, more in depth post about it so click here to go and read hers.

I am just keeping this quite short as words have failed me, I'm in shock!  Urban Decay will be removed from my cruelty free list after this has been posted.

Urban Decay give their reasons here.

[Edit: Urban Decay have removed their press statement which I have linked to above which is even more shocking!  I wish I had copied and pasted :( ]

  1. Urban Decay say they are doing this because they hope that they will be able to change China's animal testing policy and they can only do this from within. Personally I think if Urban Decay, MAC etc didn't sell in China it would force the Chinese government to reconsider it's animal testing policy as they would be losing out on revenue from sales! I honestly think it's going to get to the stage where there are no cruelty free brands left :( All these big companies care about is the $$$

    1. Exactly! It makes no sense lol!

I know it's a nightmare, as long as there are people out there who care about animal rights, hopefully that will never happen!

  2. That's actually so shocking. I only recently heard about Urban Decay a few months back and I was so set on purchasing some things off their site. Thanks for the heads up.

  3. I'm disappointed in UD - I always thought they would stay cruelty free when so many companies seem to be going to to animal testing. I've been looking into this a lot more recently and I was shocked at the amount of companies who still animal test, in this day & age surely there is no need.
